Like Old Times: 2004

Here at my mother's house I found two mixes from late 2004.  This is basically an excuse to show off how cool I was when I was young.  So, I recommend any 17 year old reading this to go shoplift some Robitussin, listen to these tunes, and ENJOY YOURSELF like we used to here in Basking Ridge.

The numbers were assigned at the time of creation:

1:
  1. Old Familiar Way - Of Montreal
  2. Le Femme d'Argent - AIR
  3. Katonah - Apollo Sunshine
  4. Web in Front - The Archers of Loaf
  5. Give it a Name - At the Drive-In
  6. The State I Am In - Belle & Sebastian
  7. In the Morning - Built to Spill
  8. Five Years - David Bowie
  9. Christine's Tune - Flying Burrito Bros.
  10. Jet Generation - Guitar Wolf
  11. All Downhill From Here - Jim O'Rourke
  12. Care of Cell 44 - The Zombies
  13. Everything In Its Right Place - Radiohead
  14. At Least That's What you Said - Wilco
  15. Melody - Serge Gainsbourg
  16. My Name is Jonas - Weezer
  17. Graveyard Shift - Uncle Tupelo
  18. Ladies and Gentleman We Are Floating in Space - Spiritualized
  19. Good Dancers - The Sleepy Jackson

2:
  1. Birds - The Butthole Surfers
  2. Initials B.B. - Serge Gainsbourg
  3. Silence Kit - Pavement
  4. Jonathan David - Belle & Sebastian
  5. Gallo Gallo - NEU!
  6. A Message to You Rudy - The Specials
  7. Roadrunner - The Modern Lovers
  8. Like a Rolling Stone - Bob Dylan
  9. Alone Again Or - LoVE
  10. Strange - Built to Spill
  11. Seems So - The Apples in Stereo
  12. I Am Trying to Break Your Heart - Wilco
  13. Electronic Performers - AIR
  14. You Ain't Going Nowhere - The Byrds
  15. Rascuache - At the Drive-In
  16. The Freed Pig - SeBADoh
  17. Old Familiar Way - Of Montreal
  18. Race for the Prize (Remix) - The Flaming Lips
  19. Tram #7 to Heaven - Jens Lekman
On closer observation this is "The Greatest Opening Tracks Ever."  I was getting the feeling there was some kind of theme here...  Also, I can assure you I was much more embarrassed the first time I realized "Old Familiar Way" was on both volumes than I am now.  Mostly just surprised "London Calling" is missing.

The Hipster Handbook turns 10.

The 2003 book is not surprisingly still quite accurate.  It has aged, but only a few years.  Would a book published in 1993 held the same weight when this was released?  Would it today?  1983?  1973?  1963?  1953?  1943?  1933?

Dig out your old copy and enjoy!
